Child Minder / Language Development Assistant

Job description

We are looking for a caring, patient, and engaging Child Minder to spend quality time with

our 4-year-old son on weekends or public holidays, focusing on developing his language, communication, and

social skills through play and everyday interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Read books together every day.
  • Encourage back-and-forth conversations during play.
  • Ask open-ended questions to stimulate thinking and conversation.
  • Sing songs, nursery rhymes, and participate in language-based games.
  • Narrate everyday activities to build vocabulary.
  • Encourage curiosity by talking about objects, people, and the environment.
  • Replace passive screen time with interactive play, reading, and conversation.
  • Create a fun, safe, and nurturing environment where our son feels confident to communicate.

Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Early Childhood Development (ECD), or

a similar recognised qualification.

  • Experience caring for or working with young children (ages 3–6).
  • Excellent spoken English.
  • Warm, energetic, patient, and genuinely enjoys engaging with children.

Working Hours

Weekends only (Saturday and/or Sunday). Approximately 3–6 hours per day (hours to be agreed).

Location

Century City, Cape Town.

Pay

R150 to R200 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
