Job Advert Summary

Perform a full range of varied and responsible engineering work and techniques under supervision and independently, involving complex large multidisciplinary asset management and customer services. The work will be undertaken in the SAM division to contribute to optimal asset performance, optimal integrated engineering designs, exceptional customer services and engineering management of Rand Water’s servitudes.

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma/B-Tech/BSc/Beng Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience: 5 -8 post experience in Civil Engineering (Construction/Pipelines), Wayleave, Servitudes, Encroachment experience.
  • Desired Experience: Design of pipelines and other civil structures, construction management.

Primary Duties

  • Assist senior engineers on aspects of larger, more complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Take responsibility for data capturing, collating condition assessment reports and interfacing between various internal stakeholders.
  • Works within the generally provided Rand Water engineering guidelines, based on an understanding of the company and its overall goals, but understands the underlying spirit of these standards and can adapt them to fit specific needs.
  • Liaises with various stakeholders to manage data and information and wayleave applications related to Rand Water’s servitudes.
  • Liaises with other specialists such as quality assurance specialists, financial specialists, condition assessment service providers and socio -geographic specialists etc, to ensure an optimal end product.
  • Monitor, update and maintain wayleave applications, approvals and wayleave spreadsheets daily, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Train and register applicants on the online wayleave system.
  • Monitor and manage the online wayleave system.
  • Attend site meetings, project meetings, inspections, kick-off meetings and close-out meetings in line with wayleave application requirements.
  • Keep abreast of new information, systems and technology relevant to wayleave management and pipeline protection.
  • Compile, update and maintain wayleave reports and spreadsheets.
  • Take minutes and compile reports for site inspections, meetings and project meetings.
  • Submit Steercom reports and other required reports weekly.
  • The individual makes responsible decisions on matters assigned, including procedures and asset management databases and GIS interfacing.
  • Work is carried out within broad guidelines requiring conformity with overall objectives, relative priorities and necessary cooperation with other units.
  • Reviews work for technical accuracy and adequacy.
  • Mainly office and site based.
