Civil Project Engineer

The Civil Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the complete life cycle of all Civil, Earthworks, and Project Infrastructure-related design and construction activities are suitably coordinated and integrated into the overall Project financial budget and schedule, while maintaining compliance with all Project technical specifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engineering

• Ensures that innovative civil/structural detailed designs are completed following good engineering practices and in accordance with client standards and specifications, industry standards and the relevant legislation (quality of design).
• Provides design interface between disciplines.
• Ensures (certified) design information received from vendors, contractors and consultants is accurate and interfaces with other designs.
• Ensures effective (peer) review and approval of discipline design is completed.
• Ensures continuous improvement, lessons learnt, value engineering, fit for purpose, and latest technologies are implemented.
• Carries the responsibility for the engineering discipline sign-off.
• Interfaces with internal and external design and drafting disciplines.
• Provides discipline inputs for studies and proposals.
• Provides engineering support to the site team.
• Manages the mark-up and back-drafting of redline drawings.
• Manages and mentors graduates, if applicable.

Operational Management

• Provides input into all SHE matters, actively participates in and promotes a total safety culture.
• Ensures that relevant project procedures are complied with.
• Ensures that fabrication, manufacturing and construction drawings are issued according to project programme.
• Manages the programme (time), cost, quality, risk and scope of assigned procurement packages.
• Ensures assigned packages are installed/constructed in accordance with the project & vendor specifications.
• Manages, inspects and releases the relevant items of procurement, fabrication and construction within the area of discipline and responsibility.
• Ensures that reports are structured, accurate, complete and well presented.
• Displays proactive communication with the project team with respect to discipline interface and problem solving.

Financial

• Manages personnel and design/draughting budget man-hours
• Manages budget as allocated per discipline/procurement package
• Ensures designs produced are in accordance with capital budget and quantities
• Ensures suitable contract management is applied to managed procurement packages
• Ensures proper change management procedure is adhered to

Client Relations

• Ensures that all interactions with Clients are conducted professionally and respectfully.
• Ensures that Clients are kept informed and up to date on the status of project technical aspects.
• Drives client engagement to understand their needs and to develop further work for SENET where possible
• Liaises and co-ordinates with the client’s discipline engineers to ensure adherence to project and client requirements and specifications.

REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma in Civil Engineering
• Site supervision, contractor management, procurement and commercial experience advantageous.

EXPERIENCE

5 - 10 years’ experience within the EPCM Industry
