Job description
Responsibilities
- Responsible for receiving, qualifying, and submitting customs clearing documentation to clearing agents, while ensuring full compliance with SARS and cross‐border regulatory requirements. This role is critical to maintaining operational accuracy, compliance, and turnaround times within a fast‐paced, 24/7 logistics environment.
- Receive and manage all clearing‐related documentation from Operations for cross‐border freight.
- Ensure accurate and compliant submission of customs documentation in line with SARS requirements. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of SARS submission processes, BLNE import requirements, and customs regulations.
- Apply sound understanding of VAT calculations in accordance with destination/country legislation.
- Interpret and apply Clearing Operational Processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Vet and quality‐check delivery notes to confirm correct induction, captured dimensions, and weights.
- Audit documentation prior to framing or submission to clearing agents in compliance with SARS policies.
- Monitor and manage incoming correspondence from Account Executives, ensuring emails are actioned within two hours and inboxes are up to date by end of shift.
- Ensure all cross‐border documentation is correctly attached to the relevant waybill before submission or clearance. Liaise effectively with local and cross‐border
- Customs authorities. Ensure overall accuracy of customs entries and documentation. Escalate all query waybills to Account Executives immediately upon identifying discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate updates on Freight on Floor with appropriate reasons.
- Contribute to departmental productivity, quality standards, and service levels.
- Follow up on documentation readiness to ensure timely border processing.
- Communicate daily with internal stakeholders regarding VAT on applicable consignments. Act as backup to the Induction and Clearing Administrator when required.
- Ensure adherence to OHS, safety, security, and company EHS policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with PPE requirements at all times.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Comprehensive knowledge of the clearing and forwarding industry across service offerings
- Exceptional knowledge of the Customs Act, rules, and regulations
- Strong expertise in customs tariff classification
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel, and experience using Easy Clear
- Proven accuracy in completing refund applications
- Own reliable transport (required due to 24/7 operational environment)
