Job description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an opportunity available for a Clinic Nurse Practitioner at our Ficksburg Store in the Free State.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and operating a profitable Primary Health Care Clinic within the Dis-Chem store, while ensuring high-quality patient care and operating within the scope of practice of a registered nursing practitioner.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Matric or equivalent Senior Certificate.
- Diploma or Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery.
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Nursing Practitioner must obtain BHF registration.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience practising as a Primary Health Care Clinic Sister.
Duties and Responsibilities
Clinic Operations & Compliance
- Ensure the clinic is open and operational according to the hours stated in the operational agreement.
- Ensure all electronic and verbal communication is followed up within a reasonable timeframe.
- Ensure daily checklists are completed, including Clinic Consumables and Temperature Checklists.
- Accurately and timeously process claims to medical aids/health insurance.
- Ensure all required clinic services are available and report any service gaps to management.
- Maintain accurate records of patient details on the electronic system.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Adhere to healthcare regulations, safety standards and infection control protocols.
- Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient care.
- Ensure patient queues are effectively managed.
Communication
- Communicate all compliments and complaints to management.
- Provide management with feedback regarding the average “feet per hour” count, including set targets.
- Ensure all clinic services are available and report any service gaps to management.
- Ensure effective communication with the Clinic Department in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Stock Control
- Perform a full inventory and stock count upon arrival at the clinic for newly appointed and internally transferred Nursing Practitioners.
- Conduct monthly inventory of assets to maintain standards.
- Conduct bi-weekly stock counts to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Manage government stock in accordance with the government stock Standard Operating Procedure.
- Ensure all stock in the clinic is checked for expiration before being used on patients.
- Dispose of expired stock in accordance with Dis-Chem’s Standard Operating Procedure.
- Adhere to vaccination compliance Standard Operating Procedures when packing the refrigerator.
- Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained in the clinic.
Customer Service
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including:
- Patients.
- Staff.
- Medical aids.
- Suppliers and representatives.
- Key role players in the community.
- Other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure you are present in the clinic when on duty, in accordance with contracted hours.
- Build and maintain healthy working relationships with Store and Dispensary Management.
- Be visible around the store and assist customers when not attending to patients.

- Adhere to patient schedules in accordance with standard operating procedures.

- South African citizen.
- MIE, no criminal record and clear credit rating.
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
