Job description
A Clinical Facilitator is a qualified nursing professional responsible for educating, mentoring, supervising, and assessing nursing staff, students, and care workers in clinical practice. They ensure that healthcare services are delivered safely, professionally, and in accordance with the standards set by the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and relevant healthcare legislation.
Key Functions and Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate orientation and induction programmes for new nursing staff and care workers.
- Provide clinical education and in-service training to improve staff knowledge and skills.
- Supervise and mentor nursing staff, students, and caregivers during clinical practice.
- Assess clinical competencies and provide constructive feedback.
- Ensure compliance with SANC regulations, facility policies, and infection prevention and control standards.
- Monitor and promote quality patient care and best clinical practices.
- Identify staff training needs and develop continuous professional development programmes.
- Assist with policy implementation and ensure adherence to healthcare protocols.
- Conduct clinical audits and evaluate nursing standards.
- Support management in maintaining high standards of patient safety and quality of care.
- Maintain accurate training records and competency assessments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- A Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- A qualification in Nursing Education (or a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Education) is highly recommended and is often required in hospitals and training institutions.
- A valid annual SANC practising licence.
- At least 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a hospital, long-term care, or primary healthcare setting.
- Strong communication, leadership, mentoring, and organisational skills.
- Computer literacy and the ability to maintain training documentation and reports.
