Job description
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Engagement: Full-Time
The Opportunity
A premium, physician-led wellness and longevity centre in Cape Town is looking for an experienced, confident and highly personable Registered Nurse to join its clinical team.
This is not a traditional nursing position. The centre operates at the intersection of preventative healthcare, wellness, longevity, advanced diagnostics and personalised health optimisation, providing clients with a proactive and highly individualised approach to their health.
We are looking for a nurse who is clinically capable, experienced in IV therapy and blood collection, and comfortable working independently within a private healthcare environment.
The ideal candidate is someone who can confidently manage their clinical responsibilities while delivering an exceptional patient experience. Someone who is warm, energetic, professional and genuinely enjoys working with people.
Experience in IV therapy and phlebotomy is particularly important, as the successful candidate will be expected to manage these procedures safely and competently from the outset.
Beyond technical ability, personality matters. We are looking for someone who is warm, engaging, reliable and proactive. Someone who works well with others, takes pride in their work and is comfortable managing their responsibilities independently within an established clinical team.
The Role
You will play an important role in the day-to-day clinical operations of the centre, working closely with the medical doctor and wider wellness team to deliver safe, efficient and highly personalised patient care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Perform venepuncture and collect blood samples confidently, accurately and with minimal patient discomfort.
- Prepare, administer and monitor prescribed IV infusions, including peripheral IV cannulation, in accordance with approved clinical protocols and your professional scope of practice.
- Conduct patient assessments, record vital signs and identify potential contraindications or concerns before procedures.
- Monitor patients during and after IV treatments, recognising and responding appropriately to adverse reactions.
- Prepare patients for consultations, diagnostic testing and clinical procedures.
- Assist the medical team with preventative healthcare assessments and personalised treatment plans.
- Administer prescribed treatments and medications where appropriately authorised.
- Manage clinical supplies, equipment, stock levels and treatment-room readiness.
- Follow strict infection prevention, hygiene, sharps disposal and clinical safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and compliant patient records.
- Coordinate with pathology laboratories regarding sample collection, labelling and handling.
- Provide patients with clear, professional guidance and appropriate aftercare instructions.
- Work independently on routine clinical responsibilities while recognising when medical escalation or referral is required.
- Contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
- Help create a warm, reassuring and professional patient experience.
What We're Looking For
The Essentials
- Qualified Registered Nurse with current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Demonstrable hands-on experience in IV therapy, cannulation and blood collection.
- Strong venepuncture and phlebotomy skills.
- Experience administering and monitoring intravenous infusions.
- Previous experience in private practice, a medical clinic or a similar clinical environment.
- Confident working independently and managing routine clinical responsibilities.
- Sound clinical judgement and the ability to recognise and respond to complications.
- Strong understanding of infection control, patient safety and clinical protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organised, reliable and attentive to detail.
- Comfortable using electronic patient records and clinical administration systems.
- Professional, ethical and committed to delivering exceptional patient care.
This is not an entry-level nursing position. We are looking for someone with practical experience in IV therapy and blood collection who can confidently step into an established clinical environment.
Personality Matters
As with every role within the centre, we place significant importance on finding someone who is not only technically capable but also a great fit for the team and the patients we serve.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Warm, bubbly and engaging – naturally makes patients feel comfortable and cared for.
- Confident and self-sufficient – comfortable working independently without constant supervision.
- Proactive and organised – takes initiative and keeps the clinical environment running smoothly.
- Calm under pressure – professional and composed in a busy clinical environment.
- Highly personable – enjoys interacting with patients and building trust.
- Detail-oriented and conscientious – takes pride in delivering accurate, safe and consistent care.
- A genuine team player – cooperative, supportive and happy to assist colleagues.
- Reliable and accountable – takes responsibility for their work and follows through on commitments.
- Adaptable and open-minded – comfortable with the approach and procedures of a modern wellness practice.
- Genuinely interested in wellness – appreciates preventative healthcare and helping patients achieve better health outcomes.
We want someone who can balance clinical professionalism with genuine warmth and personality. Someone who takes their responsibilities seriously, works well with the team and makes patients feel welcome, comfortable and confident in their care.
Advantageous Experience
The following would be beneficial but are not essential:
- Previous experience in a wellness or longevity clinic.
- Experience with IV nutrient infusions or NAD+ therapy.
- Experience with diagnostic blood testing and pathology coordination.
- Experience supporting doctors in a private medical practice.
- Experience in aesthetic medicine or related clinical treatments.
- Experience in executive, concierge or premium healthcare.
- Additional training in phlebotomy, IV therapy or cannulation.
- Current BLS certification.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
