CODE 14(EC) TRUCK DRIVER-HORSE & TRAILER

Job Description

FLEX CARRIERS is seeking an experienced and reliable Code 14 (EC) Truck Driver with proven experience driving truck tractors (horses) with trailers.

This position is specifically for an experienced heavy-duty driver who is confident operating articulated vehicles and understands the responsibilities associated with the safe and professional transportation of goods.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Valid Code EC (Code 14) driver's licence
• Valid PrDP – Goods
• Minimum 3 years' proven experience driving Code 14 heavy vehicles
• Proven experience driving truck tractors/horses with trailers
• Confident with coupling and uncoupling trailers
• Good knowledge of road safety regulations and professional heavy-vehicle driving practices
• Able to conduct proper pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Able to identify and report vehicle, tyre, trailer and mechanical defects
• Good understanding of securing and transporting loads safely
• Able to complete delivery documentation and other required paperwork accurately
• Reliable, responsible and punctual
• Good communication skills
• Able to work independently and follow instructions
• Willing to work flexible hours and travel when required
• Must be physically and medically fit to perform professional driving duties
• Contactable references from previous employers are required
• Clean criminal record
• South african citizen

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Safely operating company truck tractors (horses) and trailers
• Transporting loads safely and efficiently to designated destinations
• Correctly coupling and uncoupling trailers
• Performing daily vehicle and trailer inspections before departure
• Checking tyres, lights, brakes, fluids and general vehicle condition
• Ensuring loads are properly secured before departure
• Complying with all traffic laws, road regulations and company safety procedures
• Taking proper care of the truck, trailer and company equipment
• Keeping the vehicle clean and presentable
• Reporting mechanical problems, damage, accidents or defects immediately
• Completing trip sheets, delivery notes and other required documentation accurately
• Maintaining professional conduct when dealing with customers, suppliers and other road users
• Following assigned routes, delivery schedules and company instructions
• Ensuring company vehicles and goods are handled responsibly at all times
