Steenberg Golf Estate is seeking a passionate, motivated, and detail-oriented Commis Chef to join our culinary team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about culinary excellence and committed to delivering an exceptional dining experience for our members and guests.
Overview:
The Commis Chef will support the kitchen in delivering Steenberg's culinary offering by preparing, cooking, and presenting a range of high-quality dishes while rotating across various kitchen sections. Working as part of the kitchen team, the successful candidate will ensure food consistently meets Steenberg's brand standards while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, personal hygiene, and kitchen cleanliness.
Experience and Requirements:
- Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in a professional kitchen, catering, or hospitality environment.
- Relevant culinary qualification or equivalent practical experience will be advantageous.
- Sound knowledge of food safety practices and HACCP principles.
- Experience with food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.
- Strong knife skills and confidence in using commercial kitchen equipment.
- Good understanding of portion control, food presentation, and waste management.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills and commitment to mise en place.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while demonstrating initiative.
- Flexible to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and evenings as operationally required.
- Passion for food, hospitality, and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, cook, and finish food items according to Steenberg recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and sanitation throughout all kitchen areas.
- Ensure correct food handling, storage, stock rotation, and waste management procedures are consistently followed.
- Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries according to company standards.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor stock levels within assigned sections and communicate replenishment requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen brigade to ensure efficient service and timely delivery of dishes.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and well-prepared workstation throughout service.
