Position Overview
Achu and Sons Computer Complex is a busy computer retail and repair business servicing walk-in customers, corporate clients, and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Computer Technician – Servers & Bios to diagnose, repair, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, and server systems. The successful candidate will possess strong troubleshooting abilities, extensive hardware and software knowledge, and the confidence to resolve complex technical issues in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Hardware Diagnostics and Repairs
* Diagnose and repair desktop computers, laptops, and server systems, including Dell, HP, Lenovo, SuperMicro, and custom-built systems.
* Perform advanced component-level troubleshooting and replacement of:
o RAM
o CPUs
o Motherboards
o Power Supplies (PSUs)
o Graphics Cards (GPUs)
o RAID Controllers
o Backplanes
* Service and maintain server hardware, including:
o Drive replacements in RAID arrays
o Power supply replacement
o System board replacement
o CPU and memory upgrades
* Perform BIOS/UEFI configuration and maintenance, including:
o Firmware updates
o BIOS flashing
o CMOS resets
o Password resets
o Boot configuration
* Conduct post-repair testing and stress testing to ensure system stability and reliability.
2. Software Installation and Operating System Support
* Install, configure, and troubleshoot:
o Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022
o Windows 10 and Windows 11
o Linux distributions
* Diagnose and repair operating system issues, including:
o Boot failures
o Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors
o Corrupted operating systems
o Driver-related issues
* Recover data from failing storage devices where possible.
* Remove malware and viruses and optimize system performance.
Minimum Requirements
Education
* Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
Certifications (Advantageous)
* CompTIA A+
* CompTIA Network+
* CompTIA Server+
* Microsoft Certifications (MCP/MCSA or equivalent)
Relevant practical experience may be considered in lieu of certifications.
Experience
* Minimum 2–3 years' hands-on experience repairing desktops, laptops, and servers.
* Proven experience working with enterprise server hardware.
Technical Competencies
Server Hardware
Must be proficient in:
* Replacing server power supplies
* Installing and upgrading server memory
* Replacing RAID controllers
* Servicing server backplanes
* Diagnosing server hardware failures
BIOS/UEFI
Must have experience with:
* BIOS flashing
* Firmware upgrades
* Password resets
* Boot order configuration
* UEFI troubleshooting
Diagnostic Tools
Experience with:
* Digital multimeters
* POST diagnostic cards
* BIOS programmers
* Thermal paste application
* Electrostatic discharge (ESD) procedures
