We are seeking an experienced, highly competent and results-driven Construction Manager to join our team and take overall responsibility for the successful planning, coordination and execution of construction projects from commencement through to practical completion and handover.

The successful candidate will be an experienced construction professional with strong leadership capabilities, excellent technical knowledge and a proven track record of delivering projects on time, within budget and to the required quality and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage and oversee construction projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover.
• Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of construction activities on site.
• Develop and manage project programmes, construction schedules and key milestones.
• Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and professional teams.
• Monitor project progress against approved programmes, budgets and specifications.
• Manage project costs, variations, claims, delays and potential cost overruns.
• Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and contractual requirements.
• Review and coordinate construction drawings and resolve technical issues with consultants and subcontractors.
• Conduct regular site meetings and ensure that actions are followed up and closed out.
• Monitor workmanship and ensure that quality standards are maintained throughout the project.
• Identify construction risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
• Manage procurement, material deliveries, plant and resources required for the project.
• Ensure effective site establishment, logistics and general site organisation.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, records, reports and site instructions.
• Liaise professionally with clients, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and other professional consultants.
• Manage subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
• Review progress claims and assist with certification and commercial administration.
• Ensure that projects comply with applicable South African construction legislation, regulations, standards and contractual requirements.
• Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety requirements and company policies.
• Work closely with the Health & Safety Officer and ensure that all site safety requirements are implemented and maintained.
• Ensure proper close-out, snagging, commissioning, documentation and handover of completed projects.
• Lead and motivate site teams to achieve project objectives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Relevant BSc / BTech / National Diploma in Construction Management, Building Science, Civil Engineering or a related qualification.
• A minimum of 8–10 years’ relevant construction experience, preferably with significant experience in a Construction Manager or senior site-management position.
• Proven experience managing large-scale residential, commercial, mixed-use or property-development projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, sequencing and project planning.
• Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and construction teams.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial administration.
• Experience with JBCC contracts is highly advantageous.
• Knowledge of FIDIC, NEC or other standard-form construction contracts will be an advantage.
• Strong understanding of South African construction legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations.
• Experience in implementing and monitoring construction health and safety requirements.
• Strong understanding of quality-control procedures and construction standards.
• Excellent programme and project-management skills.
• Strong financial and cost-control awareness.
• Ability to read, interpret and coordinate architectural, structural and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Experience with construction/project-management software such as MS Project, Primavera, Procore or similar will be advantageous.
• Valid Driver’s Licence.
• Own reliable transport.
• Ability to travel between project sites when required.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION

Registration or eligibility for registration with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Professional Construction Manager (PrCM) or Professional Construction Project Manager (PrCPM) is a requirement

Candidates with the appropriate experience and registration status will receive preference.
