Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Management
Management of a project from the onset to completion.
Ensure that all quality requirements are achieved through effective checking of setting out, levels, plumbness, squareness, materials and finishes.
Verify that staff and subcontractors are working from the correct drawings and interpreting specifications accurately.
Prepare detailed snag lists and ensure defects are rectified timeously.
Coordinate the timely ordering and delivery of materials, plant and labour resources.
Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and site-specific safety requirements.
Conduct safety inspections and promote a strong safety culture among employees and subcontractors.
Minimise waste by ensuring the proper use and protection of materials, plant, tools and hired equipment.
Maintain efficient filing systems and ensure all site documentation is completed accurately and timeously.
Ensure that the Quantity Surveyor is informed promptly of changes, additional works and excavation quantities.
Keep management informed of delays, problems, variations and additional work requirements.
Manage time effectively and facilitate efficient meetings and work processes.
Provide proactive support to the professional team and communicate potential issues before they impact project delivery.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, clients, subcontractors, suppliers and support departments.
Lead by example and uphold company values, policies and site rules.
Job Knowledge and Technical Competence
Plan, programme and monitor construction activities to ensure project milestones are achieved.
Apply basic Human Resources and Industrial Relations procedures, including disciplinary and grievance processes, hours of work and overtime requirements.
Understand and monitor labour, material, plant and subcontractor cost allowables.
Interpret and apply construction drawings and specifications.
Demonstrate sound knowledge of earthworks, concrete, reinforcing, brickwork, services and finishing trades.
Understand the principles of reinforcing, formwork and support work.
Possess a sound understanding of construction materials and their application.
Minimum Requirements
B.Tech Construction Management or a related discipline.
Minimum of 5+ years relevant experience within the construction industry.
Sound knowledge of construction methods, quality control and site administration.
Creation and tracking through construction matrices.
Using the Invocom system to manage and complete projects.
Proficiency in working on RDrive
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Strong planning, organisational and communication skills.
Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
