Cook/Chef

Baker & Bean, a busy daytime café in Simon’s Town, is looking for two experienced and dependable Chef/Cooks to join our kitchen team.

This is a daytime-only position with no evening service. Applicants must, however, be available to work according to a seven-day roster, including weekends and public holidays when scheduled.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The successful candidates will be responsible for preparing and presenting consistent, high-quality café meals in a busy breakfast and lunch environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing breakfast, lunch and café-style dishes to a consistently high standard
• Working efficiently during busy service periods
• Following recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards
• Preparing ingredients and completing daily mise en place
• Monitoring stock levels and minimising unnecessary waste
• Maintaining excellent food-safety, hygiene and cleaning standards
• Receiving and correctly storing stock
• Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and service-ready
• Working cooperatively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams
• Completing opening, closing and general cleaning duties when required

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

• Have at least two years of practical, hands-on experience in a professional kitchen
• Be able to prepare meals independently and work confidently without constant supervision
• Have experience working during busy breakfast or lunch services
• Be punctual, highly reliable and able to maintain consistent attendance
• Have good knowledge of kitchen hygiene, food safety and correct stock handling
• Be comfortable with cleaning and general kitchen duties as part of the position
• Be available for scheduled weekend and public-holiday shifts
• Be able to travel reliably to Baker & Bean in Simon’s Town for every scheduled shift
