Job Advert Summary

We are seeking a motivated and technically inclined tax professional to join our Tax Compliance Department in a developmental role designed to progress into a Corporate Tax Compliance Officer (TCO) position.

Our tax compliance structure is intentionally designed to support deep technical development and long-term success:

  • Tax Manager
  • Tax Compliance Officers (TCOs) – responsible for managing complex client portfolios
  • Tax Compliance Administrators (TCAs) – specialised tax professionals who support TCOs and develop the capability to manage portfolios independently

This role does not involve immediate responsibility for a client portfolio. Instead, it offers exposure to complex and interesting tax work across a diverse and sophisticated client base, providing the experience and technical depth required to transition into a TCO role over time.

Due to the complexity of our clients, even experienced tax professionals benefit from time in this role before managing their own portfolio.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Sound knowledge of South African tax legislation and accounting principles
  • Experience preparing and submitting income tax, provisional tax and dividends tax returns
  • Exposure to SARS dispute resolution and verification processes.
  • Ability to analyse discrepancies in tax assessments and interpreting financial data and tax implications
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding financial statements prepared using IFRS for SMEs or full IFRS statements
  • Able to interpret accounting informationg. trial balances, management accounts and identify key tax risk areas
  • Ability to navigate the SARS e-filing system
  • Working knowledge of Greatsoft or similar tax software
  • Working knowledge of CaseWare would be an advantage

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduate or Post-Graduate qualification in Tax or Accounting
  • Registered Tax Practitioner, or eligible and willing to register
  • At least two years in a similar role within a tax compliance department in an accountancy firm
  • SAICA or SAIPA contract completed would be an advantage

Duties and Responsibilities

Main purpose of Position

To support Corporate Tax Compliance Officers in the effective management of client portfolios by assisting with tax compliance work, SARS engagements, and related tax processes, while building the technical skill set required to progress into a Tax Compliance Officer role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and completion of annual income tax returns for companies, trusts and exempt entities
  • Preparation and submission of dividends tax returns
  • Assisting with provisional tax compliance
  • Attending SARS appointments and assisting with SARS engagements
  • Drafting and assisting with objections, disputes, and verifications, under guidance
  • Preparing applications for tax clearances and tax directives
  • Handling correspondence with SARS, clients and internal teams
  • Maintaining accurate tax records and internal workflow documents
