COST ACCOUNTANT

About the Role

We are seeking a highly analytical and meticulous Cost Accountant to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing and controlling costs, maintaining accurate cost information, supporting budgeting, and forecasting processes, and providing meaningful financial insights to assist management with operational and strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate will have strong costing experience, excellent analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Maintain and review product costing, standard costs and cost structures.

· Analyse actual costs against standard/budgeted costs and investigate variances.

· Prepare detailed cost and profitability analyses for management.

· Monitor manufacturing/production costs, including materials, labour and overheads.

· Review inventory valuations, stock movements and related reconciliations.

· Analyse production efficiencies, wastage and cost variances.

· Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting processes.

· Prepare and maintain accurate cost accounting records and reports.

· Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.

· Conduct margin and profitability analysis across products, customers and/or business units.

· Identify opportunities for cost optimisation and improved financial controls.

· Assist management with financial modelling and cost-related decision-making.

· Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, procedures and controls.

· Work closely with Finance, Operations, Procurement and other relevant departments to ensure accurate costing information.

· Assist with internal and external audit requirements relating to costing and inventory.

Minimum Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree or relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, Cost and Management Accounting, or a related field.

· Relevant experience in a Cost Accountant, Management Accountant or similar costing-focused role.

· Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory accounting and variance analysis.

· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

· Experience working with SAGE Evolution/accounting systems.

· Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.

· High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

· Ability to interpret financial information and communicate findings effectively.

· Ability to work independently and meet strict reporting deadlines.

Advantageous

• Experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• CIMA qualification or progress towards CIMA would be advantageous.
• Experience with standard costing and manufacturing SAGE Evolution system.
