Cost Accountant

Basic Function

• Oversee and analyze cost expenditures and purchases within the organization
• Review services and goods, record data, and make recommendations about cost-efficient and financially feasible cost option

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 or Matric
• Qualification in Accounting or related
• 3-year article experience (not negotiable)
• Cost Accounting Certificate (If 5 years total experience)
• Cost Accounting Diploma (If experience is less than 5 years)
• Strong leadership skills
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Excellent proven interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently
• Customer focus and liaison
• Responsible to meeting deadline and targets
• Computer literate
• Report writing
• Conflict management

Duties and Responsibilities

Job Costing:

• Ensure that jobs have been costed correctly in that all expenses have been allocated correctly

Monitoring And Closing of Jobs:

• Manage the WIP list and ensure timeous closure of jobs

Extraction of Job Costing Data:

• Pulling all costing data off jobs for Analysis reviews

Analyzing of Costs:

• Determine cost variances and shortfalls per job and job type

Upkeep of Costing Database:

• Keep an up-to-date costing database for trend analysis and for future job predictions

Internal Recoveries:

• Ensure each company invoices the correct value to the other and that everything has been considered and invoiced

Recoveries on Jobs:

• Allocation the correct expenses on a job and ensure that any expense / stock on a job that is not applicable (recoverable) is correctly allocated to the correct section

Inventory Valuation and Control:

• Provide and maintain an up-to-date record of the inventory value taking the stock age, improvement and write-offs into account

Business Central (BC) Support:

• Provide BC support and setting of new reporting mechanisms including performing all the necessary grind-work to obtain relevant reports. Maintain BC in the applicable areas

General:

• Specialized ad-hoc financial and process projects
• Be willing to carry out work not covered herein and to undertake specific assignments as a result of having expert knowledge and/or experience in a specific field
