Job description

A well-established manufacturing business based in Germiston is looking for an experienced Customs & Freight Coordinator to manage their end-to-end import and export process. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who thrives on keeping shipments moving, negotiating better freight rates, and staying on top of customs compliance.

What you'll be doing:

📦 Imports & Exports — Coordinate all raw material, machinery and consumables imports, plus finished goods exports across South Africa and the SADC region. Prepare full export documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, bills of lading, airway bills, permits) and track shipments from collection to delivery.

✈️ 🚢 Freight Management — Source and negotiate competitive rates across air and sea freight, compare FCL/LCL options, manage bookings and vessel schedules, and handle urgent/expedited shipments when needed.

💰 Cost Optimisation — Get multiple quotes on every major shipment, benchmark rates against the market, build strong relationships with logistics partners, and drive down freight, demurrage and detention costs.

📋 Customs & Compliance — Ensure full SARS Customs compliance, correct HS code classifications and duty calculations, and manage all ASYCUDA declarations. Liaise directly with SARS, clearing agents, shipping lines and border authorities to resolve queries and delays.

📊 Reporting — Deliver weekly and monthly reports on import/export performance, freight spend, customs turnaround times and savings achieved.

What you'll need:

  • Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, Customs Administration or similar
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in customs coordination, import/export administration or freight forwarding
  • Proven experience managing air, sea AND road freight
  • Hands-on experience with ASYCUDA (essential)
  • Solid knowledge of SARS Customs legislation and Incoterms
  • Experience negotiating freight rates with airlines, shipping lines, clearing agents and forwarders
  • Intermediate–advanced Excel; ERP experience (SAP, Syspro or similar) a plus
  • Manufacturing environment exposure advantageous

You are: commercially sharp, detail-obsessed, cool under pressure, and someone who genuinely enjoys the puzzle of getting goods across borders efficiently and cost-effectively.
