Job description

The Data Monitor will support a digital chest X-ray project through data monitoring, quality assurance, verification, and reporting activities. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity of TB and related health data collected at supported health facilities and community outreach sites. The role includes routine data quality assessments, data validation, monitoring of key indicators, and identification of gaps requiring corrective action.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Monitoring and Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor the quality, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of TB screening, testing, and treatment data collected from facilities and community outreach activities.
  • Conduct routine data verification, validation, and reconciliation against source documents and electronic systems.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly data quality assessments and support implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Identify missing, duplicate, or inconsistent data and work with facility staff to resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor key project indicators and ensure compliance with reporting requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date patient records and referral tracking systems.
  • Ensure adherence to data management policies, confidentiality requirements, and data protection protocols.

Reporting and Performance Monitoring:

  • Generate daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly data quality reports and performance summaries.
  • Analyse programme data and provide feedback on trends, achievements, challenges, and areas requiring improvement.
  • Compile and submit data monitoring reports to facilities, sub-districts, districts, and project management teams.
  • Support facility and community teams in improving data quality and reporting performance.
  • Provide system-generated reports and dashboards as required.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain accurate records, filing systems, and monitoring documentation.
  • Prepare monitoring tools, registers, and reports for routine activities.
  • Perform administrative and ad-hoc duties as assigned.
  • Support audits, data reviews, and programme evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12/Matric.

Advantageous

  • Knowledge and experience working with health information systems such as TIER.Net, DHIS, and other electronic health databases.

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in data monitoring, data quality assurance, data management, or health information systems.
  • Experience in monitoring, verification, and reporting of TB and HIV programme data.
  • Knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) principles and data quality standards.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical and data quality management skills.
  • Ability to identify data discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work after hours when required.
