POSITION OVERVIEW:
Working closely with the Director of Technology and Senior Data Systems Engineer, the Data Systems Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day and long-term integrity of AISJ data. They will be responsible for ensuring that data collected by various school divisions and departments are accurately and efficiently entered into the relevant databases. Additionally, they will assist in the management of various learning and content management systems. The Data Systems Engineer will be expected to play a role in the conversion of data, entry of data into the different systems, and the creation of reports while providing a high level of support and best practice knowledge to administrators and teachers in accordance with the learning goals of the school.
Qualifications and Experience
- Matric Certificate
- ITIL
- MCSE BI, MCSE Data Analytics
- BSc degree in Computer Science or relevant field
Preferred Skills/Experience
- 3 or more years PL/SQL and T-SQL experience
- In-depth understanding of how technology integrates in the enterprise
- Significant and successful experience using different Database Systems in the enterprise, e.g. MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Significant and successful experience using reporting systems, eg Oracle APEX, SQL Reporting Server
- Knowledge of Google products (e.g. Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.)
- Basic skills for Microsoft Excel and text-format files
- Data modeling and dashboards (e.g. Power BI, Looker)
- Oracle and Microsoft SQL Database administration
- JavaScript, HTML/HTML5, and XML web development experience
- Active Directory Administration
- Oracle SQL Developer
- Basic knowledge of programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, Python)

Performance Responsibilities
- Support teachers and administrators with different Database systems, including but not limited toPowerSchool, PowerTeacher Pro, Finalsite, Destiny, Schoolsbuddy, Salamander, Toddle, Schoology, etc
- Administer and maintain different databases
- Set up and review security access
- Ensure data accuracy
- Setup and maintain different system and data automations and integrations.
- Support different data gathering tools and ensure reporting is up to date and accurate
- Work with relevant departments to ensure the smooth and ongoing operations of the emergency alert system for SMS, E-Mail and Voice Notes.
- Drive and establish the management of different data Standard Operating Procedures
- Ensure smooth operations of Database systems by running administrative tasks
- Coordinate the troubleshooting and support calls with external providers
- In collaboration with communications, provide maintenance and troubleshooting support on the school website.
- Support the Senior Data Systems Engineer with data table structures, forms, reports, and queries
- Support school information systems, including setup of report cards, transcripts, classroom setup.
- Work with the Senior Data Systems Engineer to identify single points of failure and to work out Disaster Recovery plans
- Stay abreast of the latest technology and work with the Director of Technology on potential upgrades
- Perform and support other tasks as identified by the Director of Technology
Working hours: This is a 45-hour week position, with possible extended hours from time to time. Work schedule will be shared with you by your Manager.
