We’re Hiring: DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR (DBA) | Information Technology

Are you an experienced database professional with a passion for ensuring data availability, performance, and security across enterprise systems?

Lesaka Merchant is looking for a DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR (DBA) to join our Merchants Operations Division. This role is ideal for a technically skilled individual who can manage database environments and ensure optimal performance, integrity and resilience of critical data systems.

Job purpose

To manage and optimise database environments, ensuring data availability, integrity, performance and security across all systems supporting the Merchant Division.

Key Responsibility Areas

Database Operations & Availability

Monitor database performance and availability
Manage database environments (production, test, dev)
Resolve database incidents and issues
Ensure high availability and uptime
Maintain database monitoring systems

Database Performance & Optimisation

Tune queries and database performance
Optimise indexing and storage structures
Monitor performance metrics and trends
Identify bottlenecks and improve efficiency
Support application performance improvements

Data Integrity & Security

Ensure data integrity and consistency
Manage database access and permissions
Implement security controls and encryption
Support compliance requirements
Monitor for data anomalies

Backup, Recovery & Disaster Management

Implement and manage backup processes
Perform data recovery and restoration
Test backup and recovery procedures
Support DR planning
Ensure data resilience

Database Engineering & Change Support

Support database changes and deployments
Maintain database configurations
Collaborate with DevOps and application teams
Ensure database readiness for releases
Document database structures and changes

Qualifications & Experience

Diploma or Degree in Information Systems, IT or related field
4–7 years database administration
Certifications / Advantageous
Microsoft SQL / Oracle / PostgreSQL
Cloud database certifications
