DEPOT PACKER / LOADER (PORT ELIZABETH ONLY)

INHERENT JOB REQUIREMENTS

This is a physically demanding operational position. The successful candidate must be able to perform the inherent requirements of the job, which may include:

• Heavy lifting and carrying of freight and goods.
• Repetitive bending, stretching, pushing and pulling.
• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Climbing onto and working around trucks, trailers, loading areas and steps where required.
• Working at different heights where the safe handling of freight requires it.
• Working outdoors and indoors, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
• Working around moving vehicles, forklifts and other depot equipment.
• Working under time pressure to meet loading and dispatch deadlines.
• Working shifts, early mornings, evenings, Saturdays, public holidays or overtime where operationally required and lawfully scheduled.
• Maintaining concentration and following safety procedures at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Pack, stack, load and unload freight, pallets, cartons and other goods.
• Assist with loading and off-loading vehicles and trailers.
• Move goods manually or using appropriate handling equipment.
• Check goods for visible damage and report discrepancies.
• Ensure freight is handled carefully to prevent damage or loss.
• Secure and position goods correctly for transport.
• Assist with sorting and preparing freight according to routes and delivery requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised loading area.
• Follow all health and safety procedures and instructions.
• Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Assist drivers and other depot staff where reasonably required.
• Perform other reasonable duties associated with the depot operation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Basic literacy and numeracy.
• Previous experience in a warehouse, depot, logistics, freight, packing, loading or similar environment will be an advantage.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling duties.
• Able to work weekends and shifts
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Reliable, punctual and safety-conscious.
• Must have reliable transport to and from work
