Deputy Director, Earth Observations (12 Months)

A leading public sector organisation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join its Space Science and Technology Programme as a Deputy Director: Earth Observations, based in Pretoria. The successful candidate will support the development and implementation of Earth Observation policies, programmes and applications that address national user requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development, review and implementation of Earth Observation strategies.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement and identify user requirements.
• Facilitate the development and implementation of Earth Observation applications.
• Monitor funded projects and programme implementation.
• Provide strategic support, technical inputs and oversight on programme planning and reporting.
• Build and maintain partnerships with local, regional and international stakeholders.
• Promote human capital development, awareness initiatives and industry growth within the Earth Observation sector.

Minimum Requirements

• A three year Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences or Engineering.
• An Honours Degree or postgraduate qualification in Remote Sensing or Geospatial Sciences will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in Earth Observations.
• Sound knowledge of the Space Science and Technology landscape, Earth Observation systems and the National System of Innovation.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, report writing, analytical and problem solving skills.
