Designated Environmental Agent (DEO)

Introduction

BCB Solutions, a leading company specialising in Routine Road Maintenance (RRM) and Road Construction, invites suitably qualified and experienced Designated Environmental Officers (DEO’s) to submit their applications for inclusion in our database for current and future high value infrastructure projects across South Africa.

Successful candidates will be considered for appointment should BCB Solutions successfully acquire any relevant works.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Identifying environmental impacts and aspects relating to the day-to-day construction activities;
• Preparation of reports: Implementation/Progress/Status etc;
• Assist in the direct implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (CEMP);
• Ensure that the requirements of the EMP are communicated and understood by personnel and contractor on site and enforced;
• Conduct inspections and audit and follow up corrective preventative actions;
• Conduct environmental risk assessments and evaluate the method statements;
• Submit regular written reports to the engineer;
• Prepare and conduct environmental awareness training and presentation;
• Support Health and Safety activities;
• Monitor the project’s environmental performance;
• Provide environmental professional advice to the teams on site;
• Network with other contractors and industries on environmental practices to establish a benchmark;
• Conduct Environmental ad-hoc audits with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment;
• Liaise with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment on obtaining all relevant permits and authorisation.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Applicants must possess the following:

• Bachelor’s degree of Health and Environmental Management (NQF Level 7) or higher degree;
• Experience in SANRAL Projects (Road Construction and/or RRM) with a minimum of 3 projects which have a construction value of R80 million or more (inclusive of VAT);
• Active professional registration as Environmental Officer with SACNASP;
• Workforce management experience
• A minimum of 5–10 years' experience managing SANRAL Road Construction and/or Routine Road Maintenance (RRM) projects.
• Valid South African driver's licence.
• Passion for the environment.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Efficiency and Accuracy.
• Pro-active and ability to work independently.
• Loyalty.

Roles are linked to specific client contracts and are filled as those contracts are confirmed, so engagement is contingent by nature; neither continuous work nor permanent employment is offered or implied. Appointment to any project depends on the contract proceeding, the requirement of that project, and operational needs at the time.

Pay: R208 938,84 - R1 058 768,96 per year
