Desktop Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Junior Desktop Engineer to join our IT team and provide reliable, efficient and customer-focused technical support to our employees.

The successful candidate will provide first- and second-line desktop support, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, assist with IT infrastructure maintenance, and ensure support tickets are managed and resolved within the required Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first- and second-line desktop support to end-users.
• Troubleshoot and resolve desktop, laptop, hardware and software-related issues.
• Install, configure and maintain operating systems, drivers and Windows updates.
• Set up new, rebuilt and replacement PCs and laptops using WDS images.
• Install and configure printers and troubleshoot printer-related issues.
• Provide support for third-party software applications.
• Assist with Anti-Virus remediation and ensure devices remain compliant.
• Assist with WSUS remediation and Windows security updates.
• Assist with backup remediation and perform required backups where applicable.
• Ensure appropriate hardware is installed and configured on computers.
• Manage and resolve service desk tickets within applicable SLAs.
• Escalate unresolved technical issues and third-party vendor support matters when required.
• Participate in IT projects, including business moves, hardware upgrades and security initiatives.
• Create and maintain desktop support documentation.
• Provide professional and friendly technical support to end-users.
• Maintain accurate administration and ensure tickets are updated and closed timeously.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12 – Required
• CompTIA A+ Certification – Required
• CompTIA Network+ Certification – Required
• Minimum 1 year’s experience as a Desktop Engineer / Desktop Support Engineer – Required
• Experience in desktop support and troubleshooting.
• Experience in printer troubleshooting and support.
• Knowledge and experience with Active Directory.
• Knowledge of Zimbra account management.
• Strong knowledge of computer hardware, software and operating systems.

Additional Qualifications – Beneficial

• MCSA
• Azure Administration certification or relevant Azure Administration knowledge.
