Diesel Forklift Maintenance Mechanic

A well established and reputable company based in Stellenbosch has an excellent opportunity for a Diesel Forklift Maintenance Mechanic to join their dynamic team. Minimum of 3 – 4 years’ experience within this industry.

Requirements

Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on diesel forklifts to ensure maximum reliability and uptime

Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults on forklifts and material handling equipment

Service diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, braking systems, steering components, cooling systems, and fuel systems

Inspect, repair, and replace hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, and lifting mechanisms

Conduct routine inspections and safety checks to ensure forklifts comply with safety regulations and operational standards

Perform breakdown repairs quickly to minimise production downtime

Troubleshoot battery charging systems, starters, alternators, wiring, sensors, and electrical control systems

Carry out engine overhauls and component rebuild when required

Repair and replace tyres, wheels, forks, chains, mast rollers, bearings, and lifting assemblies

Maintain accurate service records, maintenance reports, and job cards

Assist with stock control by identifying and requesting spare parts and consumables

Keep the workshop clean, organised, and safe at all times

Support production by ensuring forklifts remain available for loading, offloading, and transporting bricks and raw materials throughout the plant

Assist with maintenance on other diesel-powered plant equipment when required

Education:

Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Red Seal Trade Test)

Minimum 3–5 years' experience maintaining diesel forklifts in a manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, or industrial environment

Forklift maintenance certification (advantageous)

Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and electrical circuits

Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults

Knowledge of preventative maintenance programmes

Welding and fabrication experience (advantageous)

Willingness to work overtime and attend to breakdowns when required

Valid driver's license.

Advantageous:

Construction materials, quarrying, mining, logistics, or heavy industrial environments

Exposure to planned maintenance systems and maintenance scheduling.
