Assistant Diesel Mechanic

A leading company in the mining industry is seeking an Assistant Diesel Mechanic to join its operations in Mooinooi, North West, on a 12-month contract. The successful candidate will assist qualified Diesel Mechanics with the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of heavy mining and earthmoving equipment while maintaining high safety standards

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of 1–2 years' experience as an Assistant Diesel Mechanic, within the mining industry.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems and mechanical components.
• Exposure to servicing and repairing heavy mining equipment will be advantageous.
• Medically fit to work on a mine site.
• Willing to work shifts, overtime and standby when required.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Assist Diesel Mechanics with servicing, maintaining and repairing heavy mining and earthmoving equipment.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing of diesel-powered machinery.
• Support fault finding and diagnostics on diesel engines, hydraulic systems and mechanical components.
• Replace worn or damaged parts under the supervision of a qualified Diesel Mechanic.
• Perform routine inspections and report defects or equipment abnormalities.
• Assist with dismantling, cleaning, repairing and reassembling mechanical components.
• Ensure all tools, equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
• Complete basic maintenance documentation and job cards accurately.
• Adhere to all company policies, mine health and safety regulations and safe work procedures.
• Assist with breakdowns and emergency repairs to minimise equipment downtime.
• Carry out any additional duties related to the workshop or field maintenance as instructed by the Supervisor.
