Job description
ENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reporting structure: Workshop Foreman or any other person assigned
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- A diesel mechanic apprentice is responsible for assisting experienced diesel mechanics in the maintenance and repair of diesel engines, heavy machinery, and vehicles.
- The apprentice will undergo on-the-job training
- Gain practical experience in various aspects of diesel engine maintenance and repair.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as changing oil, lubricating parts, and replacing filters
- Learn to use diagnostic equipment and tools to identify problems and troubleshoot issues with diesel engines.
- Assist in replacing or repairing defective parts and components, such as brakes, transmissions, engines, and fuel systems.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and hours worked on each task.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Familiarize oneself with environmental and safety regulations related to diesel engines and hazardous materials handling.
- Become proficient in the use and care of tools and equipment commonly used in diesel engine repair.
- Attend training sessions and educational programs as required to gain the necessary knowledge and skills.
- Interact with customers or vehicle operators when necessary to gather information about issues or to explain work performed.
- Understand and adhere to all company policies and procedures including Health and Safety regulations
- Be medically fit to perform assigned tasks. From time to time, be able to work at height safely, by following all safety procedures.
- Demonstrate acquired skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the department
- Able to work shifts, and or overtime if and where required
Minimum
- Matric with Mathematics and Science – No Maths Literacy will be accepted
- N2 or higher in Electrical / Mechanical qualification will be an advantage
- Fresh from school candidates will be considered
- Must have not have previously been part of an apprenticeship/learnership
- Driver’s license advantageous
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS:
Ability to Demonstrate strong Customer interactions, both internal and External
LOCATION & EXPECTED TRAVEL:
- This position is based at Proton Industrial Park, Chloorkop, South Africa.
NB!! Only candidates that are fresh from school, have never received a stipend, and are 25 years and younger will be considered!!
