Job description
Black Magic Logistics is looking for a Diesel Mechanic who will be centered around maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and ensuring the safe operation of diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. Diesel mechanics work with engines commonly found in trucks, buses, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, and sometimes marine vessels or generators
Qualifications & Required skills:
- Diesel technician or mechanic degree/ certification related field with accredited Trade test.
- 3-5 years’ experience in diesel engine, truck & trailers repair
- Code 14 Valid Driver’s license
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team,
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously,
- Strong organizational and time management skills,
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Knowledge and Expertise
- Diesel Engine Systems: Deep understanding of diesel engines, their components, and how they function.
- Fuel Systems: Knowledge of fuel injection systems, pumps, and injectors.
- Cooling and Exhaust Systems: Expertise in maintaining and repairing cooling systems, radiators, and exhaust systems.
- Electrical Systems: Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems related to diesel engines (e.g., alternators, batteries, starters).
- Diagnostic Skills: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools to detect engine issues, including fault codes and mechanical malfunctions.
- Hydraulics and Pneumatics: Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems often used in diesel-powered machinery.
2. Mechanical Skills
- Hand and Power Tools: Ability to work with a variety of hand and power tools, such as wrenches, drills, and specialized equipment.
- Engine Repairs: Skills in dismantling and reassembling engines, replacing parts, and performing major repairs.
- Preventive Maintenance: Ability to conduct regular inspections and maintenance to prevent breakdowns and increase engine longevity.
3. Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking
- Troubleshooting: Ability to quickly diagnose mechanical, electrical, and fuel system problems.
- Attention to Detail: Careful examination of engine parts and systems to identify underlying issues that might not be immediately visible.
4. Safety Awareness
- Workplace Safety: Knowledge of proper safety protocols and the use of safety equipment to prevent accidents while working with heavy machinery and tools.
- Environmental Considerations: Awareness of environmental regulations and practices related to diesel engine maintenance, including emissions and waste disposal.
5. Physical Dexterity and Stamina
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to work with small parts and tools with precision and skill.
- Physical Stamina: Diesel mechanics often work in physically demanding environments and may need to lift heavy parts or work in tight spaces.
6. Time Management
- Efficiency: Ability to prioritize tasks and work within deadlines, especially in a fast-paced setting where quick repairs are often required.
7. Communication Skills
- Customer Interaction: Ability to communicate effectively with clients to explain issues with their engines and recommend repairs or services.
- Teamwork: Collaboration with other mechanics, supervisors, and support staff to ensure efficient repair processes.
8. Adaptability and Continuous Learning
- Technology Updates: Diesel engines and related systems evolve over time, so staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and repair techniques is crucial.
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust to new challenges, engine models, and diagnostic tools.
9. Record Keeping and Documentation
- Maintenance Logs: Proficient in documenting repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used, ensuring accurate records are maintained for future reference.
- Compliance: Understanding and adherence to industry standards, warranties, and manufacturer guidelines.
Education:
- High School (matric) (Preferred)
Experience:
- Red Seal Diesel Mechanic: 5 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- Code 14 Driver's License (Required)
