Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Cape Town
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for ensuring maximum vehicle availability by carrying out scheduled, preventative, and emergency maintenance on heavy-duty vehicles.
The role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the capacity to perform under pressure while maintaining high-quality standards of workmanship.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct vehicle inspections and diagnostic tests to determine condition and identify worn or damaged parts.
- Perform test drives to evaluate vehicle performance and detect deficiencies.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical problems on both body and chassis of fleet vehicles.
- Accurately diagnose faults reported on vehicles and perform effective troubleshooting.
- Maintain and repair vehicles across the fleet, including buses, boats, and cars.
- Carry out servicing according to manufacturer specifications and service schedules.
- Conduct proactive, preventative maintenance to minimise downtime.
- Ensure all work complies with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
- Work accurately and efficiently to meet productivity and performance targets.
- Adhere to company procedures, policies, and deadlines at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, parts used, and services completed.
- Work effectively within the mechanical team to ensure optimal fleet availability.
- Assist with additional workshop tasks as required, including emergency repairs.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure tools and equipment are properly used and stored.
Qualifying Criteria
- Qualified Diesel Mechanic or Technical Engineer.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on heavy-duty vehicles essential.
- Previous hands-on experience in a similar workshop environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Competence in multitasking and teamwork.
- Willingness to work overtime as required.
- Code C or EC Driver's License essential .
Advantageous
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Experience in workshops specializing in buses or heavy-duty motor vehicles.
- Panel beating experience.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: R20 000,00 - R300 000,00 per month

- Cape Town, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

- Diesel Mechanic certification/ Qualification (Required)
