Diesel Mechanic / Maintenance Manager

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanic / Maintenance Manager to oversee and maintain our vehicle fleet, industrial laundry machinery, equipment and facilities. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, reliable individual with strong mechanical and maintenance experience, as well as the ability to manage maintenance activities and staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair diesel delivery vehicles and light commercial vehicles.
• Oversee preventative maintenance of vehicles, laundry machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical faults.
• Attend to vehicle and machinery breakdowns and minimise downtime.
• Oversee maintenance and repairs of industrial laundry equipment, including washers and dryers.
• Supervise and allocate tasks to maintenance staff.
• Manage contractors, suppliers and maintenance service providers.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, service and vehicle records.
• Monitor maintenance stock, parts and expenditure.
• Oversee vehicle maintenance administration, including licences and fines.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety requirements.
• Identify recurring faults and implement preventative solutions.
• Assist with general facility maintenance where required.

Minimum Requirements

• Qualified Diesel Mechanic with relevant trade certification.
• Proven experience in diesel vehicle maintenance and repairs.
• Previous maintenance supervisory/management experience.
• Experience with light commercial vehicles.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical systems.
• Industrial machinery experience will be advantageous.
• Valid South African driver's licence.
• Good organisational, leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Must be able to work standby and every second weekend.
