Background

The Digital Content Creator will help grow WWF South Africa’s presence on TikTok, YouTube, and other emerging video platforms. This role is responsible for identifying compelling stories and voices from across the organisation, building relationships with subject matter experts, staff and partners, and coordinating the development of short-form content that will resonate with, and engage, a youth audience. The role will script, film and edit content, while supporting WWF spokespeople, programme staff and other contributors to become effective and authentic creators on these platforms. The DCC will appear in content alongside technical experts and pre-identified WWF spokespeople. Experience in science or environmental communication is a strong advantage.

Minimum Requirements

    • A relevant diploma or degree in media, communication, film, digital marketing, or a related field.
      • Minimum 3 years of experience creating content for TikTok or similar short-form video platforms.
      • Demonstrated ability to create video content that drives engagement, ideally for brands or causes.
      • Experience working with creators, influencers, subject matter experts or organisational spokespeople is advantageous.
      • Experience in environmental or science communication is desirable but not required.
      • Demonstrated experience identifying stories, building stakeholder relationships and coordinating contributors to deliver content.
      • Proficient in using TikTok and Instagram Reels natively, as well as video editing tools.
      • Strong copywriting and storytelling skills for social media.
      • Comfortable working both behind the camera and occasionally appearing on camera where appropriate.
      • Basic knowledge of social media analytics and tools (e.g., TikTok analytics, Meta Business Suite).
      • Strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
      • Creative thinker with a strong grasp of internet culture and Gen Z online behaviours.
      • Highly curious and proactive in identifying stories and content opportunities.
      • Confident, agile, enthusiastic team player who can work both independently and collaboratively.
      • Comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation.
      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
      • Passion for nature, sustainability, and making science accessible.
      • Willingness to occasionally travel for shoots or WWF events.
      • Open to testing, learning, and iterating content quickly.
      • Enthusiastic about WWF’s mission and values.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Evolve and execute WWF South Africa’s TikTok and YouTube content strategy (and plan) in support of Strategy 2030 and in collaboration with the digital, marketing and communications teams.
      • Coordinate, produce and support the regular creation of engaging, informative, and creative short-form video content that resonates with WWF audiences, particularly youth audiences.
      • Stay abreast of platform trends, creator formats, audience behaviour and content best practices, identifying opportunities that support WWF’s mission.
      • Build and maintain relationships with WWF staff, subject experts, influencers and partners in order to identify compelling stories, contributors and content opportunities across WWF's programmes and campaigns.
      • Develop and maintain a network of WWF contributors, coaching and supporting staff, subject experts and partners to participate confidently and authentically in short-form content. The role-holder should expect to appear on camera where appropriate.
      • Script, film, edit and repurpose content for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and other short-form digital platforms.
      • Track content performance and audience insights, applying learnings to continuously improve content and channel growth.
      • Monitor community engagement and comments, working with the wider digital communications team to build audience participation and conversation.
      • Align content creation with WWF’s communications and marketing objectives to grow youth engagement, build constituency and support future fundraising ambitions.
      • Support the broader communications team with campaign ideation, storytelling and content production as required.
