CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
To provide strategic, intellectual, and operational leadership to the Centre, advancing critical scholarship, engagement, and transformative practice in alignment with the Universitys Vision 2030. The Director will position the Centre as aleading site of interdisciplinary research, public engagement, and advocacy that responds to pressing societal challenges in community, adult, worker and vocational education.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Centres research, engagement, and advocacy agenda.
- Conceptualise and implement a coherent programme of work aligned with institutional priorities and societal needs.
- Advance interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary scholarship
- Build and sustain strategic partnerships locally, nationally, and globally.
- Lead the development and execution of flagship and signature projects.
- Strengthen the Centres contribution to transformation, social justice, and inclusive knowledge production.
- Drive fundraising initiatives and secure external funding to support the Centres sustainability and growth.
- Ensure effective governance and management of the Centre, including financial, human resource, and operational oversight.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on programme impact using appropriate frameworks and systems.
- Promote the Centres visibility, intellectual leadership, and public profile.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrated intellectual leadership and depth in a relevant field of scholarship.
- Strong understanding of critical theory, social justice, and/or engagement paradigms within higher education.
- Excellent communication, networking, and partnership-building capabilities.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary teams and initiatives.
- Strategic thinking and change management expertise.
- Experience in policy development, implementation, and institutional positioning.
- Fundraising and project management capability.
- Ability to navigate complexity, ambiguity, and diverse stakeholder environments.
REQUIREMENTS
- A relevant doctoral degree.
- An established research and publication record.
- At least 8 10 years experience in higher education or a related sector.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a senior management or leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in programme development, stakeholder engagement, and institutional leadership.
