Job description

The Director is responsible for general leadership and management of staff; directing the administration and financial sustainability of the department. The role is responsible for the strategic direction, coordination and management of the University’s provision of student residences. It provides leadership to ensure appropriate, diverse, compliant, safe and financially sustainable living and learning residences. Devises and implements models which advance and enhance the holistic living and learning residence life for the students. Creates and sustains a residence environment that advances the UKZN Strategic Goal of providing an excellent student experience. Generates and implements residence programmes that support the University’s goals of academic growth and throughput of students. Ensures proper and effective communication in relation to DSRA matters, internally and externally.

Minimum requirements

• A Masters Degree in any recognised discipline by UKZN .
• A minimum of ten (10) years’ management experience, of which five (5) should be at a senior management level and three (3) of these in the management of residence operations.
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of residence operations.
• Demonstrated negotiation and crisis intervention skills.
• A valid and unendorsed drivers’ licence.
• Experience in managing and maintaining a large budget.
