Job description

Maternal, Adolescent & Child Health Institute NPC, (MatCH) is a non-profit organisation supporting public sector health services. MatCH implements donor funded projects to improve HIV and TB outcomes through providing technical assistance and direct service delivery support. MatCH is looking for a suitably qualified candidate to fill the following position under a project aimed at Achieving and Sustaining HIV/TB Epidemic Control in the KwaZulu Natal Province

Location: Ugu District

Type of Contract: Fixed Term Contract ending 31 December 2026

**Main purpose of the job :**The incumbent will lead technical assistance, strategic planning, quality assurance, for laboratory services HIV prevention, treatment and care services including the management of advanced HIV disease and opportunistic infections

Key Responsibilities Oversee the implementation of quality control and quality assurance for laboratory services in support districts in KwaZulu-Natal Provide technical assistance and management support for proficiency testing and quality indicator monitoring to ensure accurate and valid test results for the programme and remediation plans to address deficiencies Provide technical assistance and management support for sample collection, processing, transport and results return Provide support for laboratory and point of care testing site equipment managements and maintenance Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines for Laboratory Services Lead the use of laboratory information systems Provide training and mentoring to Laboratory staff and other cadres to ensure knowledge transfer Participate in Technical Working Groups and District Health Reviews Provide input into the development of transition readiness tools and conduct assessments of readiness to transition laboratory services Develop laboratory services workplans and ensure these are implemented Set targets and conduct weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and develop remediation plans to address any poor performing areas

Minimum Qualifications and Experience: Relevant qualification in Laboratory Sciences HPCSA registration 5 years relevant experience Valid Driver’s License

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities : Experience in a donor funded organisation and PEPFAR funded programmes desirable Experience in public health sector Ability to work in a high-pressure environment Attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills Willingness to travel
