We are looking for an experienced and strong Safety Officer to oversee, organize, and carry out comprehensive health and safety audits, as well as assess and enhance the health and safety practices across three (3) Viking Fishing sites.

- Department: Health and Safety
- Locations: South Arm Road, V&A Waterfront; Bahrain Drive, Airport Depot; Athlone Fish Shop & Philippi, Selecta Sea Products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
- Developing, Implementing, Maintaining and Monitoring of OH&S Management Systems at all Divisions, e.g., Viking Fishing – South Arm, Selecta Sea Products, Airport Depot & Athlone Fish shop.
- Developing, Implementing, Maintaining and Monitoring of OH&S Marsh Risk Control Grading Audit Documentation at all Viking Fishing Divisions.
- Developing, Implementing, Maintaining and Reviewing of HIRA (Hazard Identification Risk Assessment) at all Viking Fishing Divisions.
- Identifying hazards and Assessing Risks ensuring compliance with legislation and promoting a culture of health and safety in the workplace.
- Updating of HIRA at all Viking Fishing Divisions in terms of any changes to Legislation and considering how risks could be reduced /mitigated/quantified.
- Developing, Implementing, and Reviewing of Administrative Controls-this includes both Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Safe Working Procedures (SWP’s) which identify and take account for all relevant hazards pertaining to each Division.
- Carry out regular site inspections to ensure compliance and to see whether policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
- Ensuring the company is compliant with Legislative requirements in terms of the Occ. Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 and Regulations.
- Developing, Implementing, and Reviewing of Letters of Appointments at all Viking Fishing Divisions.
- Assisting with In-house training with Line Management and employees at all Viking Fishing Divisions in terms of any changes made to Legislation.
- Keeping records of inspection findings and producing reports that suggest improvements.
- Recording and investigating incidents and producing statistics for managers at quarterly health and safety meetings.
- Determining further Corrective- and Preventative Action Rectifications regarding severity of Incidents / Accidents.
- Developing, Implementing, Maintaining and Monitoring of Action Plans from Marsh Audits and Safe Net Africa Surveys at all Viking Fishing Divisions.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
- Diploma or Degree in: Occupational Health and Safety
COMPETENCIES
- Occupational Health and Safety legislation knowledge.
- Hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Incident and accident investigation.
- Safety auditing and inspection techniques.
- Emergency preparedness and response planning.
- Safety reporting and record management.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 standards.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
- SAMTRAC (Safety Management Training Course).
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (advantageous).
- ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems training
