Job description
1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Driver is responsible for:
- Pickups and deliveries of products/goods in accordance with driver schedule and completion of detailed daily trip sheet
- Planning optimised routes to avoid delays and adhering to schedules to deliver all goods/items safely and efficiently
- Collections/shopping/transport for different departments
- Conducting routine checks to ensure the company vehicle is always roadworthy
- Work closely with Reception Team
2. SCOPE OF JOB
Process
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicle and completion of register.
- Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics, ability to recognize unusual noises, leaks or warning signs.
- Knowing when a vehicle is unsafe to operate.
- Load securing and safe cargo handling.
- Detailed completion and sign off of logs/vehicle reports/trip sheets on a daily basis.
- Follow road regulations and safety standards. Failure to comply with road regulations and company driving standards may result in disciplinary action in accordance with company policy
- Hazard identification and risk awareness.
- First Aid - be able to attend to any self-injury incurred while on the road.
- Monthly inspection of the first aid bag in vehicle completed and signed off.
- Refuelling of vehicle as and when required.
- Check on licensing of vehicle.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance is maintained, tyres, water/oil and annual service and wheel balancing.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness, report maintenance requirements such as minor and major services or vehicle warning lights.
- Report excessive emissions and any leaks detected to comply with ISO 14001 requirements.
- Comply to the OHS Act requirements with respect to reporting of incidents on or off site as per company requirements.
- Responsible for the vehicle’s accessories e.g., spare wheel, radio, Bluetooth.
- Company vehicle can only be used for company business and transporting staff/visitors, no other unauthorised use allowed.
- No talking on cell phone whilst driving. Calls to be made and taken only if safely off the road.
- Responsible for ensuring that all products are safe and secure at all times.
- Company vehicle must be locked at all times and parked in a safe and secure area on and off site.
- Safeguard company property and resources, keeping it in as close to as new condition as possible. Examples of company property include motor vehicles, computer equipment, mobile phone, uniform, etc.

FOOD SAFETY AND HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS:
In this capacity you have the following responsibilities in relation to the listed management systems below:
- ISO 14001
- Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993 and it’s regulations
- ISO 45001
- FSSC 22000
- GMP
- HACCP
This includes, but need not be limited to, our products, processes, equipment, and hazards within the scope of the respective management system listed above.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Adhere to processes needed for the respective management systems listed above.
- Report on the performance, effectiveness, and suitability of the respective systems & need for improvement in your respective department.
- Be actively involved in promoting and improving of the food safety and environmental, health & safety culture at Deli Spices.
- Execute duties as per any legal, regulatory and or statutory appointment.
- Reporting of any problems or issues with regards to the food safety and environmental, health & safety management systems to an identified person e.g., Team leader, Supervisor etc.
These roles and responsibilities will be valid from the day of acceptance until termination in writing or until it is superseded by a new appointment.

4.QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS LEVEL:
- Valid driver’s licence - up to date PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Transportation of dangerous goods knowledge (training will be provided)
- Defensive driving techniques (training will be provided)
- First Aid (training will be provided)
- Punctual
- Neat and professional overall appearance
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Professional attitude and not merely rushing through tasks
- Attention to detail, with ability to deliver on tight time schedules and completion of timesheets
- Ability to complete daily vehicle logs, trip sheets and basic paperwork
- Ability to follow instructions
- Team player, willingness to work with receptionists and independently
- Work closely with team members and stay in constant communication to prevent any delays
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation
- Proactive communication – identify potential delays and inform relevant team members immediately of such delays in clear and concise communication to prevent errors and ensure smooth operations
