Job description

We are looking for an experienced and safety-focused Driver Trainer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, assessing, coaching, and monitoring Bulk Vehicle Operators (BVOs) to ensure the safe, legal, and efficient transportation of fuel and other dangerous goods in line with company standards, client requirements, and legislative compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Driver Training & Development

  • Conduct induction training for all new drivers.
  • Deliver classroom and practical driver training.
  • Train drivers on company policies, SOPs, JRAs, client requirements, and dangerous goods procedures.
  • Conduct refresher and remedial training.
  • Develop and maintain training material and competency assessments**.**

Driver Assessments

  • Conduct pre-employment driver evaluations and practical road assessments.
  • Assess driver competency in vehicle operation, fuel loading, transportation, and offloading procedures.
  • Evaluate drivers' knowledge of dangerous goods legislation and emergency response.
  • Maintain accurate assessment and training records to keep up to date.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant transport, dangerous goods, SHEQ, and road traffic legislation.
  • Monitor driver compliance through observations, telematics, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Assist with accident investigations and implement corrective actions.

Operational Support

  • Conduct route risk assessments and route familiarisation.
  • Support safe driving initiatives and fatigue management programmes.
  • Perform on-road evaluations and provide driver coaching.
  • Guide drivers on safe fuel loading, transportation, and offloading practices.

Performance Management

  • Identify driver development needs through audits, telematics, incidents, and customer feedback.
  • Implement corrective training plans where required.
  • Coach drivers to improve safety, fuel efficiency, and vehicle care.
  • Monitor and report on driver performance and training effectiveness.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance registers, competency certificates, and assessment reports.
  • Ensure driver files remain compliant and up to date.
  • Compile monthly training and compliance reports.
  • Track licence renewals, PrDPs, Dangerous Goods permits, and other competency requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Valid Code EC Driver's Licence with a valid PrDP.
  • Accredited Driver Assessor and/or Driver Trainer qualification (Teeta)
  • Valid Dangerous Goods certification.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in fuel transportation operations.
  • Sound knowledge of fuel loading, transportation, and offloading procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of transport legislation, Dangerous Goods Regulations, and SHEQ requirements.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Willingness to travel between Depots to do training (Western cape and Eastern Cape)

  • Positive internal and client audit results.
