THE Pretoria Hotel is looking for a dynamic, service-driven, and highly organised Duty Manager to join our management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hotel, ensuring that all departments work seamlessly together to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
As the Duty Manager, you will act as the Manager on Duty during your shift, providing operational leadership, supporting departmental teams, and ensuring the hotel's service standards, safety requirements, and operational procedures are consistently upheld.
Key Responsibilities
Hotel Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of the hotel to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery. Act as the Manager on Duty (MOD) during assigned shifts. Monitor the performance of all operational departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Maintenance, and Security. Ensure compliance with hotel policies, procedures, and brand standards. Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, conference facilities, and back-of-house areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and presentation standards are maintained. Coordinate departmental activities to ensure efficient guest service and operational excellence.
Guest Experience
- Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure a memorable guest experience. Handle guest complaints, feedback, and special requests promptly and professionally. Resolve operational issues efficiently while maintaining high levels of guest satisfaction. Welcome VIP guests and assist with arrivals, departures, and special events where required. Monitor online guest feedback and communicate service improvement opportunities to management.
Leadership & Team Management
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to departmental supervisors and staff. Assist with staff coaching, training, and performance management. Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a culture of service excellence. Ensure staff comply with hotel policies, grooming standards, and health and safety requirements.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring departmental costs and operational efficiencies. Ensure accurate completion of shift reports, incident reports, and daily operational reports. Support cash handling procedures and ensure compliance with financial controls. Assist with room revenue optimisation and occupancy management where required.
Health, Safety & Security
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and hotel safety procedures. Respond effectively to emergencies, security incidents, and guest-related issues. Conduct routine safety inspections and report maintenance or security concerns. Ensure fire, evacuation, and emergency procedures are understood and followed.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Tourism, or a related qualification. Minimum of 3–5 years' supervisory or management experience in a hotel environment. Sound understanding of hotel operations across Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and Maintenance. Excellent customer service and guest relations skills. Strong leadership, organisational, and problem-solving abilities. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and experience with hotel property management systems will be advantageous. Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, public holidays, and overnight duty when required. Valid driver's licence will be advantageous.
