About the Role

We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented E-commerce Operations Assistant to support the daily operations of our growing online retail business.

This is a hands-on role that combines e-commerce administration, marketplace management, product content creation, inventory control, order fulfilment, and basic digital marketing support. The successful candidate will help ensure our online stores and marketplace listings remain accurate, up to date, and fully operational while contributing to an excellent customer experience from product listing through to order dispatch.

This position is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in e-commerce within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Marketplace & E-commerce Administration

  • Manage and maintain marketplace accounts, including the Takealot Seller Portal and other online sales channels.
  • Create, update, and maintain product listings across our website and marketplace platforms.
  • Ensure product descriptions, specifications, pricing, dimensions, images, categories, and tags remain accurate and consistent.
  • Monitor stock levels and maintain inventory accuracy across all online sales channels.
  • Process incoming online orders efficiently and accurately.
  • Upload product images, including lifestyle and promotional content.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance checks to identify content errors, missing information, and opportunities to improve product presentation.

Product Content Management

  • Receive product information from procurement and create structured product listings.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent product information across all digital platforms.
  • Assist with ongoing catalogue improvements and content optimisation.
  • Apply basic SEO best practices when creating and updating product listings.

Inventory & Warehouse Support

  • Assist with stock control and inventory verification.
  • Perform routine stock counts and inventory updates.
  • Help maintain inventory accuracy between warehouse systems, marketplaces, and the website.
  • Maintain organised warehouse storage areas.

Order Fulfilment & Dispatch

  • Prepare and pack customer and marketplace orders for dispatch.
  • Verify order accuracy before shipment.
  • Package products carefully, including fragile items, to minimise transit damage.
  • Ensure all orders are dispatched within required timeframes.

Courier & Logistics Coordination

  • Arrange collections with courier partners.
  • Monitor deliveries and shipment progress.
  • Assist in resolving delivery-related queries when required.

Marketing Support

  • Assist with content updates for promotions, product launches, and marketing campaigns.
  • Ensure promotional pricing and product availability remain accurate across all platforms.
  • Design basic promotional graphics using Canva.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • 6–12 months' practical experience in e-commerce, online retail, marketplace administration, or a similar role.
  • Experience working with online sales platforms and marketplaces.
  • Practical experience using the Takealot Seller Portal.
  • Good understanding of product listing creation and catalogue management.
  • Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Email, and web-based systems.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets, product information, and inventory data.
  • Must be based in the East Rand and able to work full-time from our office.
  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance.

Advantageous

  • Experience with Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, or similar e-commerce platforms.
  • Experience using Canva.
  • Experience in inventory control, warehousing, or order fulfilment.
  • Basic understanding of SEO and online merchandising.
  • Social media or digital marketing experience.
  • Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.

Non-Negotiable Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have at least 12 months' experience working with online sales platforms or marketplaces.
  • Have practical experience using the Takealot Seller Portal.
  • Be fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Be based in the East Rand and available to work full-time on-site.
  • Be comfortable working in both an office and warehouse environment.
  • Be confident using Microsoft Excel and web-based systems.
