Job description
We are looking for a dynamic, innovative, customer centric individual to join the Health and Safety Team at our Amaro Foods Central Office, Epping.
PURPOSE
As part of our commitment to legal compliance and social responsibility, we are seeking a skilled professional to assist business units in developing and executing a comprehensive Safety, Health, and Environmental Management (EHS) program. This individual will play a vital role in facilitating various programs to ensure the effective implementation of EHS policies and procedures, enabling us to achieve our required objectives.
KEY PERFORMANCE OUTPUTS
- Implement safety, health and environmental (EHS) policies, standards, procedures, programs, and systems.
- Coordinate EHS legal appointment requirements.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness.
- Ensure health and safety and environmental inspections of the workplace and liaise with workplace management on implementation and monitoring plans.
- Undertake EHS Management System audits.
- Participate in internal and external EHS audits.
- Ensure that EHS audit findings are resolved as per the action plan.
- Participate in EHS-related forums.
- Conduct EHS risk assessments.
- Participation in ad hoc EHS projects supporting the business's objectives and goals.
- Document and report near misses, and minor and disabling injuries, as required.
- Investigate accidents and incidents and submit investigation reports to the EHS Manager.
- Train staff on EHS policies, procedures, and practices.
- Ensure that EHS induction for all new employees, contractors, and visitors is completed and periodical refresher training for employees.
- Provide input in the review of training manuals to ensure the current practice is reflected therein.
- Conduct educational awareness campaigns through various means and platforms on EHS programs.
- Coordinate external training where required.
- Review EHS compliance requirements of contractors before they commence with projects.
- Implement the EHS document control system.
- Assist with the administration of COIDA at respective sites.
- Submit Injury on, Duty and Occupational Illnesses documentation as COID Act requires.
- Liaise with the HR department for staff statistics to update DIFR monthly.
- Report to EHS Manager monthly / as required.
- Report to the Department of Labour as required.
- Liaise with the onsite clinic on Occupational Illnesses management.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum: National Diploma: Safety Management / Environmental Health / Environmental Management. (NQF 6)
- Ideal qualification: B-Tech: Safety Management / Environmental Management. (NQF 7)
- 5 years of experience developing and implementing Health, Safety and Environmental management systems
- ISO14001 & ISO45001 implementation experience.
- Experience in food production/processing.
- EHS internal auditing experience
- HIRA development
- Incident Investigation
