Electrical Draughtsman

Company based in Middelburg is seeking a skilled Electrical Draughtsman to join their engineering team.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Draughtsman to develop accurate electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and detailed drawings for underground mining equipment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for converting design concepts and field requirements into accurate, practical, and manufacturable electrical documentation. The Electrical Draughtsman will work closely with design engineers, electricians, instrumentation specialists, and the production team to ensure designs are compliant, cost-effective, and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
• Generate 2D and, where applicable, 3D CAD drawings for electrical systems and assemblies.
• Interpret and incorporate design specifications, site measurements, and engineering inputs.
• Develop electrical layouts, control panel drawings, cable schedules, and wiring documentation.
• Ensure all drawings comply with relevant electrical standards, regulations, and industry practices.
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical systems.
• Manage drawing revisions and maintain accurate document control.
• Collaborate with engineers, electricians, workshop personnel, and suppliers to resolve design issues.
• Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement of existing electrical systems.
• Ensure electrical designs are practical, safe, reliable, and manufacturable.
• Assist with updating and maintaining existing electrical drawings and documentation.

Requirements

• Draughting Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Draughting/Engineering – N4–N6 or equivalent.
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in electrical draughting.
• Experience in mining equipment or heavy engineering will be advantageous.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD – essential.
• Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software will be beneficial.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, including:
• Control panels
• Wiring and cabling
• Electrical schematics
• Instrumentation
• Electrical layouts
• Control systems
• Ability to read and produce detailed technical drawings and electrical schematics.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical standards, symbols, and drawing practices.
• Experience with BOMs, drawing revisions, and technical documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Pay: R20 000,00 - R30 000,00 per month
