Electrical Engineer

HC Heat Exchangers builds HVAC, refrigeration and heat exchange equipment in Germiston. EC&I, our electrical, controls and instrumentation department, was set up this year to design, build and test the control panels and DBs that go into it. This is the department's design seat, and you will help build how it works.

Reporting to the Head of EC&I.

What you will do

- Design the SLD and DB layout for every quote: protection, breaker and cable sizing, control power and earthing, with the calculations on file

- Check and release the wiring diagrams and DB drawings before they go to the factory

- Check the electrical BOM, and approve any substitution before it is bought

- Own UL, CE, IEC and SANS compliance on our panels

- Spot-check testing on the lines, and do insulation tests where the job calls for them

- Go to site when an engineer is needed, and trace faults back to the design

- Teach the draughting team and the floor the reasoning behind our electrical standard

What you need

- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (NQF 6), or Advanced Diploma, BTech or BEngTech (NQF 7). Heavy current preferred

- 3 years or more designing LV switchgear, control panels or industrial electrical systems, including the calculations

- Working knowledge of IEC 61439, IEC 60204-1 and SANS 10142-1

- AutoCAD Electrical, or another device-based electrical design package

- Valid driver's licence, and willing to travel to site

An advantage

- UL 508A, and what CE marking asks of a control panel

- Registration as an Installation Electrician (wireman's licence)

You are as comfortable on the factory floor and on site as at the desk, and confident enough to say no to a design and put the reason in writing.
