Electrical Engineer/Technologist

PURPOSE OF ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer/Technologist to design, develop, and deliver compliant electrical engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle — from concept design through to commissioning. The role coordinates across engineering disciplines and manages technical, contractual, and site activities to ensure solutions meet client requirements, applicable standards, and internal processes

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Electrical Design & Engineering

• Develop LV and MV system designs, including reticulation and distribution networks
• Prepare detailed drawings and schematics using AutoCAD
• Design MCCs, switchgear, protection systems, and cable layouts
• Perform load calculations, fault studies, and equipment sizing
• Review and approve technical drawings and specifications

Compliance, Standards & Quality Assurance

• Ensure all designs comply with SANS, IEC, and the South African Grid Code
• Conduct design reviews and quality checks
• Apply QA processes in line with ISO standards
• Identify and mitigate technical risks in designs
• Maintain proper engineering documentation and records

Project Coordination & Interface Management

• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, civil, process)
• Coordinate electrical interfaces with other engineering disciplines
• Attend project meetings with clients and stakeholders
• Provide technical input into project schedules and deliverables
• Resolve technical queries and design clashes

Procurement, Contracts & Costing

• Prepare technical specifications for equipment and materials
• Compile Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and cost estimates
• Evaluate supplier tenders and technical submissions
• Assist in procurement processes and vendor selection
• Support contract documentation and scope definition

Construction, Testing & Commissioning

• Oversee on-site electrical installation activities
• Inspect work for compliance with design and quality standards
• Support testing and commissioning of electrical systems
• Troubleshoot installation and operational issues
• Ensure compliance with the OHS Act and site safety requirements

QUALIFICATION

• BSc/BEng/BTech in Electrical Engineering
• Registered as a Professional Engineer/Technologist (Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech) with ESCA
• Recognised or authorised Safety Evaluator status (e.g., 10 CFR 50.59 or equivalent) preferred

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in multidisciplinary engineering design
• Proven experience in nuclear projects, preferably on PWR facilities
• Experience in design, tendering, and project execution environments
