Electrical Technician

Location: Ndabeni, Cape Town, Western Cape

Reporting to: Maintenance Manager
About the Role
Barrs Pharmaceuticals is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Technician to join our Maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing electrical, instrumentation and automation systems within our pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, ensuring maximum equipment reliability and minimum production downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on electrical and automation equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults and equipment breakdowns.
- Support PLC-controlled systems and automated production equipment.
- Maintain motors, drives, control panels and electrical distribution systems.
- Complete maintenance documentation and service records accurately.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, safety and engineering standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- N6 Electrical Engineering Certificate or equivalent.
- Trade Test Certificate: Electrician.
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience as an Electrical Technician or Electrician in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical systems.
- Experience with motors, drives, control panels and electrical distribution systems.
- Experience with preventative and corrective maintenance.
Advantageous
- Experience within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
- PLC Programming experience.
- Instrumentation and automation experience.
- HVAC, compressors and utility systems experience.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond to breakdowns.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
