Electrical Technician

Role Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, fault-finding, and repair of electrical systems and equipment across Points of Presence (POPs), aggregation sites, and company facilities .

The role plays an important part in ensuring the reliable operation of our fibre network and supporting infrastructure while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and service delivery.

Responsibilities:

• Install, maintain, test, fault-find, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and components.
• Attend to electrical faults, outages, and maintenance work within agreed SLA timelines.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and quality inspections at POPs, aggregation sites, office parks, and other facilities.
• Inspect contractor installations and verify that work meets company standards and quality requirements.
• Identify high-risk electrical faults, network weak points, and potential service-impacting issues, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Monitor and support Solar PV projects to ensure compliance with specified quality requirements.
• Monitor, verify, and manage rectifier, Tautech, RMS, and Tridium alarms, where applicable.
• Coordinate and schedule maintenance services for generators, air-conditioning systems, fire suppression systems, planned and unplanned cutovers, and other infrastructure changes.
• Ensure required downtime is communicated, approved, scheduled, and appropriately managed.
• Maintain accurate site records, including electrical usage, backup batteries, generators, labels, photographs, and work-order information.
• Update work-management systems with repair progress, materials used, and completed work.
• Ensure the availability of appropriate tools, equipment, and consumables to minimise repeat site visits.
• Train, guide, and support Assistant Technicians on technical standards, operational procedures, and safety practices.
• Complete daily vehicle checks, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and other required health and safety activities.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable legislation, industry standards, company procedures, and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Qualification Requirements:

• Matric
• Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field; or
• Trade Test qualification as an Electrician.
• Certified Fibre Optic Technician (CFOT) certification will be an advantage.

Work Experience:

• 3–5 years' relevant experience in electrical systems and network infrastructure.
• Experience in fibre optic installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance.
• Practical experience with electrical installations, fault-finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
• Experience working with backup power systems, generators, batteries, rectifiers, and related telecommunications infrastructure will be advantageous.

• Valid driver's licence.
• Willingness to work shifts, standby, overtime, and respond to operational requirements.
• Medically fit to perform duties that may involve working at heights and in confined or restricted areas.
• Willingness and ability to travel between multiple sites.
• Ability to work effectively in challenging weather and field conditions.
