Department Description/Departement Beskrywing Institutional Strategy, Research and Analytics (ISRA) Embedded Data Analyst (Post Level 8) (Full-time three-year fixed-term contract) (Stellenbosch Campus) Ref. REC/406/0926 The Division for Institutional Strategy, Research and Analytics (ISRA) supports the strategy, planning, projects and decision-making of Stellenbosch University (SU). This post sits in the Integrated Data Analytics (IDA) functional area of ISRA, which turns institutional data into integrated information that strengthens strategic, tactical and operational decision-making across the University. IDA's Data Analyst Hub places analysts inside business environments across the University, so that each area gets analytics close to its work while analysts remain part of a single professional community within IDA, with shared tools, methods and standards. The Role This is a generic appointment to the IDA Data Analyst Hub. On appointment, the incumbent is placed in a specific business environment. The incumbent spends most of the week embedded in that environment and one day a week in the IDA community of practice. Placement follows institutional need and may change over time. The incumbent remains part of IDA throughout. There is one position available for this role for a three-year fixed-term period. Duties/Pligte

• Performing data analysis and reporting within the assigned environment.
• Applying analytical, statistical and data-modelling techniques to produce robust, well-documented findings.
• Generating insight that supports decision-making and translate the environment's information needs into data requirements and clear, decision-ready insights.
• Building and maintaining dashboards and reporting tools for the environment.
• Meeting IDA's quality and methodology standards and contributing to cross-environment analyses where patterns emerge across the Hub.
• Participating in the weekly IDA community of practice and building proficiency across the IDA knowledge base.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• A qualification in a data-related or quantitative field (data science, statistics, information systems, analytics or econometrics, or a related field). Qualification and relevant experience will be considered together: an honours degree or postgraduate diploma (NQF 8) with at leastthree years' relevant experience, a bachelor's degree or advanced diploma (NQF 7) with at least five years' relevant experience, or a diploma (NQF 6) with at least eight years' relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of SQL and Power BI, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• The ability to translate data into insight for non-technical audiences.
• The ability to effectively manage time, resources and skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• The ability to assess information, consider implications and make timely decisions.
• The ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with colleagues and teams.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• Experience in a higher education or comparably complex institutional environment.
• Familiarity with institutional source systems and data structures.
• Exposure to AI-enabled analytics tools and workflows.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding Afrikaans.
