Engagement/Consulting Partner

Purpose of the role

Lead the engagement and be accountable for the quality, independence and client relationship of an advisory assignment that redesigns risk, resilience, safety, health, environment, quality and ESG (SHREQ) assurance for a state-owned electricity transmission company moving to four business units and an independent Transmission System Operator.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the engagement and chair the consultant side of the weekly steering committee with the client's Executive Sponsor.
• Own the target operating model for the SHREQ functions across the four business units and the independent Transmission System Operator, including the three lines of defence.
• Sign off every deliverable after independent peer review, and ensure recommendations are evidence-based, practical and compliant with King IV/King V, the PFMA and the Companies Act.
• Lead the process and reporting redesign, the integrated draft report and the final reports and implementation roadmap.
• Present findings and the roadmap to the client's EXCO, Audit & Risk Committee and Board in a final workshop.
• Lead the culture and embedding design (visible felt leadership, accountability culture, performance contracts).
• Manage independence, conflicts of interest, confidentiality and POPIA obligations on the engagement.

Deliverables: Accountable for the operating model design, process and reporting redesign, draft report and final reports and Board pack.

Minimum requirements (must meet)

• Honours degree in commerce, engineering, law or science.
• At least 15 years' experience, including 5 years leading advisory engagements.
• Led at least two enterprise risk, SHEQ or operating-model reviews for a state-owned company, public entity or utility.
• Experience presenting to EXCO and Board committees (Audit & Risk, Social & Ethics).
• Registration with at least one recognised professional body.
• South African citizen or permanent resident, available for the full assignment.

Preferred requirements (strongly advantageous)

• Master's degree (MBA, MCom, MEng or MSc in risk or sustainability) plus a professional qualification such as CA(SA), Pr Eng (ECSA) or admitted attorney.
• IRMSA professional designation and/or IoDSA membership or Chartered Director (CD(SA)); ISO 31000 lead risk manager.
• 20+ years' experience, including at least three reviews for Eskom, electricity or water utilities, or an international transmission or system operator.
• Knowledge of electricity market reform and the Electricity Regulation Amendment Act (2024).
• Evidence of continuing professional development and industry engagement (speaking, publications, professional-body roles).

Senior presence with executives and boards; independent judgement; clear written and verbal communication; able to lead a multidisciplinary team to tight deadlines.

Pay: From R25 683,16 per day
