Enrolled Nurse

The Enrolled Nurse will support the DRIVE Dx4TB TOO study, a multicentre diagnostic accuracy study evaluating next-generation TB diagnostics. They will perform clinical procedures, recruit and follow up study participants, and ensure quality implementation of study protocols while maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards of patient care. The enrolled nurse will work under the supervision of a research nurse or a study coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Clinical procedures and related activities as required in the day-to-day implementation of research studies.
• Conduct clinical assessments, screening, and enrolment of participants with presumptive TB.
• Perform study-related procedures, including phlebotomy, urine collection, sputum collection, and chest X-ray coordination.
• Provide HIV counselling, testing, and linkage to care when required.
• Accurately complete case report forms (CRFs) and enter data into study databases.
• Ensure adherence to study protocol, GCP guidelines, and ethical requirements.
• Liaise with site investigators, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain proper specimen handling, storage, and timely transport to laboratories.
• Contribute to quality control, monitoring, and reporting of adverse events.
• Participate in community and clinic engagement to support study recruitment
• Fulfill the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the South African Nursing Council Code of Conduct, and align with the Aurum Institute’s core values.
• Lead the retention activities, especially for participants who have open windows for telephonic visits.

Education

• Enrolled Nursing certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Valid registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse.
• GCP trained.

Advantageous

• Have HIV testing and counselling training and certificate.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• HIV/AIDS certificate.

Experience

• Minimum of two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Phlebotomy.
• 3 years’ experience in clinically research and/or HIV/Aids and TB-related work.
• 3 years’ experience in primary data collection in the clinical or public Health Research field.

Other requirements

• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and TB.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Willing to work overtime if required.
