JOB SCOPE

To address the massive challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment South Africa needs significant and sustainable change at a local economic level. A combination of vision, creativity, practical business acumen, and an understanding of deep systemic change is required to make this happen.

The Entrepreneurial Programme Coordinator will support the ILED manager & Learning Development Coordinator to implement a trail-blazing initiative aimed at building a self-reliant and vibrant township economy. Located within an ecosystem of youth and community development, the local economic development product will drive a community based process of change with a focus on increasing the flow of money flowing into local economies, building small, micro and medium size enterprises, creating decent work, and stimulating local spend

The role includes core tasks across the following:

Partnership and stakeholder Management

• Promote and communicate entrepreneurial programmes and opportunities within the local business ecosystem, including business incubation programmes, skills development initiatives, and procurement opportunities.
• Identify, source, and onboard mentors, strategic partners, and entrepreneurs to strengthen programme delivery.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to support enterprise development initiatives.
• Facilitate collaboration between community stakeholders, government, private sector, and development partners.

Local Business database Co-ordination

• Coordinate the onboarding of local businesses and ensure all required compliance documentation is collected and maintained.
• Liaise with operational site teams to identify procurement requirements and match opportunities with local suppliers.
• Monitor, update, and maintain the local business database using the Comcare system.
• Ensure the database remains accurate, compliant, and aligned with reporting requirements.

Finances and Invoices

• Track project expenditure to ensure activities remain within approved budgets.
• Collect, verify, record, and reconcile workshop receipts and supporting financial documentation.
• Process invoices and assist with financial reporting for projects and programme activities.
• Support budget planning and cost monitoring for entrepreneurial initiatives.

Event Management

• Plan, coordinate, and deliver entrepreneurship and business development events, workshops, exhibitions, networking sessions, and stakeholder engagements.
• Coordinate event logistics, supplier management, participant registration, and post-event reporting.
• Ensure successful execution of events that promote local enterprise development and stakeholder collaboration.

Trading and co-working space activation

• Coordinate the mobilisation, occupancy, and activation of trading and co-working spaces, providing local businesses with affordable access to well-equipped facilities.
• Support tenants through business development services (BDS), mentorship, business coaching, and skills development programmes.
• Oversee the development and monitoring of individual business growth plans for tenants.
• Monitor tenant performance to ensure compliance with programme requirements, including local ownership, revenue generation, and active participation in incubation programmes.
• Facilitate tenant retention, business growth, and successful graduation from the programme.

Entrepreneurial Mentorship and Business Development

• Support the New Ventures team in conducting business feasibility assessments and opportunity evaluations.
• Conduct community interviews, market assessments, and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Provide business mentorship, coaching, and guidance to entrepreneurs at various stages of business development.
• Identify business challenges and connect entrepreneurs with appropriate support services and development opportunities.
• Monitor entrepreneur progress and measure programme outcomes against agreed performance indicators.

CORE COMPETENCIES, ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS and PREFERENCES

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 (required)
• Strong computer literacy and MS Word package skills (required).

Experience and Skills:

Live in or near Khayelitsha and have an in-depth understanding of the community (required).

Fluency in English and any other South African Language(required).

1 year of work experience in Local Economic Development (Required).

Experience with active community engagement and dialogue (required).

Documentation management and ability to use project management tools (beneficial).

Passion for Local Economic Development and changing the status quo.

Code B driver’s license (Beneficial).
