Job description
Key duties of an Environmental Assessment Practitioner
- Conduct environmental assessments
- Identify potential environmental impacts of a proposed project.
- Assess the significance of impacts on land, water, air, biodiversity, communities and surrounding environments.
- Prepare environmental reports
- Compile Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports where required.
- Prepare Basic Assessment Reports (BARs), Scoping Reports and Environmental Management Programmes (EMPrs), depending on the project.
- Identify environmental risks
- Identify activities that may cause environmental harm.
- Recommend mitigation measures to prevent, minimise or remedy negative impacts.
- Ensure legal compliance
- Ensure projects comply with applicable environmental legislation, particularly the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and relevant regulations.
- Identify environmental authorisations, permits or licences that may be required.
- Public participation
- Facilitate consultation with affected communities, authorities, interested and affected parties (I&APs) and other stakeholders.
- Record and respond to concerns raised during the assessment process.
- Develop Environmental Management Programmes (EMPrs)
- Establish environmental controls and procedures that must be followed during construction and operation.
- Set responsibilities for contractors and project personnel.
- Monitor environmental compliance
- Conduct site inspections and environmental audits.
- Check whether contractors are complying with the EMPr and environmental authorisation conditions.
- Environmental incident management
- Investigate environmental incidents such as spills, pollution, illegal dumping, erosion or damage to vegetation.
- Recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Liaise with authorities
- Communicate with relevant environmental authorities.
- Submit required applications, reports and compliance documentation.
- Provide environmental advice
- Advise the client, project team and contractors on environmental risks and appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure environmental considerations are incorporated into project planning and execution.
Pay: R26 500,00 - R32 000,00 per month
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Umgeni Dam, KwaZulu-Natal
